 We are heading right into the second heat wave of this summer and I'm already preparing what we'll eat so that it's tasty, on the light side and preferably doesn't heat up the kitchen too much. I've already started the prep for stuff that is nice to eat cold/at room temp but needs e.g. the oven to get cooked yesterday because we're not going to hit 30°C/85°F before tomorrow. And as basically all of Europe is heading into the same high temps (for their region), I wanted to share some of my favourite things to eat while it's fucking hot and ask what your food strategies are. Because while there is always gelato, I tend to feel sick when I eat sweet things when I'm actually hungry. Not to say I don't eat any - here's the proof - but more as a treat than a meal.  We haven't had a food thread in a while. What are you cooking in the depth of winter for comfort and enjoyment? Do you have recipes you want to recommend to us or are you looking to get recommendations yourself? Trying veganuary - how's it going? Hi all! I was waiting for an OT but thought this might be a good post on its own. It is inspired by my discovery this past weekend that my doctor friend has never heard of tomato sandwiches!  I was flabbergasted! I offered him different options for dinner Saturday night, and I had a ton of fresh garden tomatoes from my grandmother’s garden.  When I said “I can make tomato sandwiches,” he replied in surprise “ Tomato  sandwiches??” I remembered that he doesn’t like tomatoes and rescinded my offer.  He said, “Wait, back up a minute. Tomato sandwiches?  Like tomatoes in  sandwiches? Tomatoes in bread?? ” He literally gaped at me in open-mouthed astonishment. He has lived in the US for over 20 years and I forget that he is still learning new things.   So how do you like your tomato sandwiches, if at all? I’ll post my answer in the comments.
