Monday Morning OT

Good morning groupthink! Are you riding your Luck Dragon into victory today? :) I found this gif while searching for the one I just uploaded. New phones are annoying & I don't where my things are ending up at the moment, so only recycled stuff for now, lol.  This is a very good idea. Take my money! After the pandemic I want to start a little bar that’s just tiny booths and you can only get in if you come alone and bring a book — Amber Sparks (@ambernoelle) January 19, 2022 I hope everyone had a nice weekend & those of you dealing with buckets of snow stayed safe & warm. My aunt is still in the hospital but doing okay & I thank you for the kind thoughts. ❤  What's happening with you this morning? I have a bunch of domestic stuff to tackle, including cleaning the pantry. I'll be sure to share the oldest thing I find, haha. Okay, the floor is yours.

Sunday OT

Happy Sunday, GT! How are all you lovely people doing today? I woke up a little earlier than I wanted to but it's ok. I feel pretty well rested and there isn't much on the agenda for today anyway. I just need to cook whatever is left in my fridge and tidy up the kitchen since my new refrigerator is supposed to be delivered on Tuesday. I'm so excited!  Also, I wanted to thank everyone who sent their love and support yesterday. It was very much appreciated and it's always so nice to remember how lovely and supportive this community is. I ended up having a really nice time with my grandma and while there were tears it wasn't all sad tears. After we went to the cemetery I took her to get a pastrami sandwich since that was one of my grandpa's favorite meals. We spent a lot of time reminiscing about all the fun times we had with my grandpa and it was nice to be able to talk about the good stuff.  Anyway, enough from me. How are y'all doing today? How will you be...

Weekend Vagenda OT

Good morning, GT--how are you this lovely weekend?  I am hoping to do some major lazing this weekend. Next week will be crazy with grading and meetings, so now is my chance. So, that means a fancy coffee, maybe a visit to my baby brudder and the babies, some reading, some viewing, some napping??? 😁, and maybe even ordering out dinner. While the weather is yucky and cold, I'm really trying to lean into the hygge of it all. I'd be lying if I said there isn't a big part of me chompin' at the bit to get out on the trails for a nice walk. But, until then, it's hygge season, babay!  How about y'all? What are you up to this weekend? Staying in, going out, being lazy, being busy? Whatever your plans, I hope you have a wonderful weekend. 💜

Fuck It Friday

Morning all, how are ya'll doing?  So the company I work at are still doing layoffs. Trickling each day so people are getting emails. They teased this right before Christmas. CHRISTMAS. And let everyone hang with that anxiety until now. They also are being extra horrible (apparently they are doing so badly financially) they are trying to find loopholes to not pay things in the severances like vacation time you accrue each January. Vacation we technically have now which we can take now. However if let go, they will give you a severance package WITHOUT the vacation time paid because now they claim you have to earn that over the year time which is BS bc we have always gotten renewed vaca time each Jan 1. Nice evil added slap in the face there.  So people at work are understandably extremely pissed off at how they are adding slaps in the face like that to possibly being let go and trying to keep their earned money which they need. It's so shitty and also they keep sending o...

ThOT

Morning! Thursdays are usually my late days at work, but Im here early covering for a coworker who is on a cruise (I told her it will be a nice change of pace for her to get sick from something other than covid), so instead of TOT we have ThOT today. In line with the spicy title, what spicy foods do yall like (or dislike)?  Ive gotten more into spicy foods as Ive gotten older, but I'll never forget my friend who takes a chip, dips the tip into mild salsa, pulls it out covered in drop of red juice, and eats it - because anything else is too spicy, bless her heart. Im also loving the Neil Young Spotify protest.  GOOD FOR YOU NEIL!!!! and I'm also very interested in the way each of these outlets are framing it and the verbiage they used.

Wed. AM OT

We got a schnerrr daaaaaay! Well, kind of, and just partially, but still. :) We didn't actually get snow, it's just too damn cold for humans to be outside so all the K - 12s around us are canceled and our college canceled AM classes. Only, I just have one class, then, and it hardly seems worth it to go in in this miserable weather for one class so I'm taking a half a personal day. :D So, my plan is to do some yoga, maybe brave the cold for a fancy coffee (maybe!), still have a couple of meetings but, otherwise? be a bum!  How about y'all? What are you up to today? Is it bitterly cold and windy where you are? You can be honest if it's sunny and warm. ;) Wherever you are, I hope you're having a fabulous day and taking good care of yourself. 💜💜💜

Tuesday OT

Happy Tuesday, GT! How is everyone doing today? I was finally able to get a good night's sleep and I feel so much better. Yesterday was an exhausting day so I was able to fall asleep around 10pm and slept until 7am. Cosmo also let me sleep in which was very much appreciated. He was still in his bed when I got up.   Today is going to be a work from home day unless something comes up with any of the kiddos I work with. Yesterday a number of clients from my team had what we call mini crisis' so that wasn't the best way to start the week. I'm hoping things chill out for the remainder of the week.  Anyway, what's up with all of y'all? How's your week shaping up?

Monday OT

How can it be both Monday again and yet still January? This mystery is beyond my comprehension. What's up for your week ahead? Today I'm thinking about indulgences. Normally I'm frugal and pretty disciplined when it comes to conveniences. I think this is part upbringing- I hear my mother's voice often in the grocery store about what a waste such and such is. I have allowed myself a couple of cheats while I try to get through these winter months and I'm really appreciating them. So what's your indulgence to make things a little easier or maybe just a bit less of a slog? For me it's cleaning wipes instead of self mixed spray and rags (I know...) and 4 ounce ice cream cups instead of the more practical large container. The icecream feels downright decadent tbh. I don't have a good gif for this theme so please enjoy some puppies And widdle kitten toes

Sunday OT

Happy Sunday, GT! How is everybody doing today?  My morning started much earlier than planned since Cosmo decided to start waking me up at 6am again. He hadn't been waking me up early for the last month or so but for some reason this week he is back at it. Usually it wouldn't bother me so much but I've been having trouble falling asleep for the last week and it's frustrating. Oh, well. Hopefully my sleep regulates soon.  Anyway, today is going to be spent doing laundry, watching movies, and looking for a new bookshelf for the living room. I can't believe how hard it is to find what I'm looking for. Thankfully there is no rush and I can take my time but you would think with the thousands of options available it wouldn't be so hard! Ok, enough from me. How are all of you? What's on your agenda for today?

Weekend Vagenda OT

Happy Saturday, GT!  We are supposed to get a bunch of weak, lil snow systems this weekend--enough to be annoying but not enough for a snow day on Mon. Harrumph. I wish we were getting bunches and bunches.  Homey and I have to go get one of my tires looked at today (those poor tire guys, dealing with the cold + wet, sandy, yucky tires) and I need to get some groceries at some point, though I'm thinking I could realistically push that off until tomorrow. Otherwise, I need to get the house in order and just get some rest. It was a long, albeit it good and actually, literally short, first week. I surely wouldn't mind a nap!  How about you? How was your week? What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Fur Face Friday!

Stupid meeting made me forget to post, but our weekly post is up at Backtalk, stop by to say hi to the fur faces: https://backtalkvillage.blogspot.com/2022/01/fur-face-friday_0548362800.html

Fuck It Friday

It's here, ya'll! So this week has been slow on this end but kind of fast. And today may unbelievably suck.  Our company is going through a massive reorg (death word) and I may be cut along with hundreds. Always a risk when you work at mass places that take a bad turn financially but, still a pain in the ass. So FUCK Reorgs today on my end. I'm preparing to get cut so I'll have my stuff ready to start sending out to other remote places ASAP. They would give severance packages but still not fun regardless. Fortunately, I have family close I can lean on for a while until I get something else and another little light I have is a pretty great group of friends in the industry and when things like this happen, we kind of put a wing around each other to help any way we can. Very grateful for them.  So again, FUCK Reorgs. They also passed us this info a week before Christmas, I had mentioned in a FIF around that time which everyone thought was especially cruel bc it was just ...

Thursday OT

It's Thursday folks. What's doing? I am getting bored. Weather, health and covid have really limited what I can do around here. I think today's tasks will include finding things to entertain myself, both inside and outside the house. Top on that list is pretty drives. Is anyone else both busy and bored? What's your go to?

Winter Food.

We haven't had a food thread in a while. What are you cooking in the depth of winter for comfort and enjoyment? Do you have recipes you want to recommend to us or are you looking to get recommendations yourself? Trying veganuary - how's it going? Made a super simple potato-carrot-thing: I'll be posting my recommendations in the comments. Lemme just say, Mr Krimi is coming around to enjoying tofu instead of regarding it as a weird veggie garbage protein. Just took about 10 years. Giving his best Pulp Fiction impersonation:

Wed. AM OT

Good morning, GT! What's up with you today?  Today's the second day of class for me; I have two bigger classes today. Hopefully, the students are nice and hopefully they are masked!  It's the start of a cold snap here, with windchills around or below 0 for the next few days. Definitely time to bundle up!  How about you? D'ya have anything fun planned today? Are you bundling up, too? As long as we all have good coffee, I reckon it'll be alright. ;) I was going to order coffee from a fancy place downtown and pick it up on my way to work but the prospect of getting out of my car in this weather has me rethinking that plan! Happy Wed.!

Tuesday's OT

Good morning! Y'all are surely tired of hearing from me, but there wasn't an open thread posted so here you go. :) Today doesn't feel like Tuesday, but it is which means tots & or tacos are great lunch choices. I'm having leftover soup because my car doors are currently frozen solid, lol. Tacos did sound fun, though. I'm low on tweets that aren't depressing, but here's a joke that made me chortle.  What's good (or not so great) in your world today?

Monday Morning OT

On this day in 1981 💫 Stevie Wonder leads a rally in Washington to get Martin Luther King's birthday declared an official holiday. He performs his song "Happy Birthday," written for King, which becomes a rallying call for the movement. Listening to Stevie Wonder's "Happy Birthday" feels like a nice way to start. Today is also Betty White's 100th birthday & James Earl Jones' 91st.  Wishing the legendary James Earl Jones a Happy 91st Birthday! 🎈🎊🎉🎂 pic.twitter.com/XQOPJ6hkXQ — Double L must Rock The Bells (@LoveThePuck) January 17, 2022 Twitter needs to add context to trending celebrities because my heart was in my throat when I first saw his name. 2022 already has me on high alert, lol. Lazy Sun. Lit. Talk

Hey, lit lovers, it's time to check in! How are the first couple of weeks of the year treating you, book-wise? Are you getting some good reading in while the sun shines and/or the snow flies? As you ponder that, don't forget to tell us:  1) What book did you most recently finish? 2) What book are you currently reading? 3) What's next on your "to be read" list? 4) Are you looking for any book recommendations? Do you have any recs for the rest of the readers here?

Lazy Sunday OT

Good morning or afternoon as the case may be! Tomorrow is Betty White's 100th birthday & this a perfect way to honor her. ❤ It's a cold day filled with all the precipitation here. I can see why the forecast was tricky. When I woke, we had nearly half a foot(!) of snow which was quickly depleted by rain & now it's sleeting with more snow on the way. Hopefully, our trees & power lines will stay safe. Any plans today or recharging for the week instead? I'm treating our 3rd major snow of the month as a hibernation event, lol. We've had more snow in the past two weeks than we usually get in 5 years. I'll get to some laundry, eventually maybe. There's a lot of football to watch & important naps to be had first. Plus, I made biscuits & gravy for breakfast which is the Nyquil of food.  😂 What's happening with you?

Long Weekend Vagenda OT

Happy Sat., GT--welcome to the weekend! Do you get Mon. off? We do not, sadly. More Zoom meetings!!!! But that's ok, I'm going to make sure to get plenty of R & R today and tomorrow. I'm planning on fully relaxing allll weekend, goddammit. Today will be yoga, hot coffee, and doing a mini-pedi. Homey's hanging with his friends tonight so I get the house to myself(!!!). I'm thinking of making myself a big ol veggie burger and fries and watching some kinda tearjerker. Any suggestions? How about you? Are you doing something fun? Are you snowed in? Whatever the plan, I hope you're feeling safe and happy. 💚

Fur Face Friday!

Our post is up at Backtalk. Stop by to say hi to the fur faces and share your own! https://backtalkvillage.blogspot.com/2022/01/fur-face-friday_0687173979.html

Friday AM OT

Good morning and Happy Friday gang! I didn't see anything up yet so I thought I'd do a quick post before I head out. Take it away!

Thursday Morning OT

Good morning groupthink! Two things boosting me today are it's almost Friday & it won't be too many weeks until we start seeing the first signs of spring. I love snow, but can't wait for daffodils & hyacinths.  HE’S IN THE STREETS LADIES! On your Mark. Get Set. Wed. AM OT

You made it to mid-week! (Hopefully) it's all downhill from here! I want to tell you all something that's been on my mind. I'm doing the 30 Days of Yoga with Yoga with Adriene and there was a fairly hard practice (core work) recently. Now, a lot of times, her comment section is filled with "YAS QUEEN" stuff, basically. But on that core work video, I saw more than a few people ANGRY. They were angry with her for making it too hard, angry with themselves for not being able to keep up. A couple of folks even mentioned crying on their mats out of frustration, quitting the video, and maybe even quitting the 30 Days.  I struggled through that video. I talked back to Adriene, which is something I never do, like, "Really, Adriene?!" or, "Come on!!!" when she had us move from one tough pose into another. But I was smiling and laughing. I was laughing when I fell out of poses and when I made funny noises or faces, trying to stay in them. Reading those c...

Tuesday OT

Hello all you lovely people!  Today is another day of waking up at 4:30am and not being able to go back to sleep. I also woke up in the middle of the night with some abdominal pain that I thought was going to turn into something bigger, but thankfully it went away after a short time and didn't get worse. I have a history of GI problems so I'm always anticipating the worst whenever things are acting up. Today is a WFH day so at least I can take it easy and rest if needed. I am feeling pretty blah.  Anyway, enough about me and my issues. How is everyone doing today? How is your week shaping up?

Monday OT

Good Monday gang! It's a cold, and windy day here but at least the sun is shining. Pupdate- We've decided that as long as there's no big surprises we'll hold off until the spring. Deep snow and sudden potty runs aren't great, espscially for a little guy. Anyway, now we're talking about names and planning gear & training. It's nice to be looking forward to something. I am off to the city soon so I'll leave y'all to it. What's going on in your world?

Sunday OT

Happy Sunday, GT! How are all of you doing today? I forgot how quickly 2 day weekends go by after enjoying 3 straight weeks of extended weekends. It went by so fast and I don't like it. At least next weekend will be another long weekend. Yippie! Today is going to be a very lazy day that's going to be spent cuddled up with Cosmo on the couch and watching movies. I'm finally going to watch The Matrix and maybe I'll get to the other two today as well.  That's pretty much it for me. I may do a few random chores around the house but nothing too intensive. I probably should pick some avocados from the tree but I'm too lazy for that today. We'll see! Anyway, what's up with all of you lovely people?

Update

On Friday I found out that I had been exposed to a Covid-19 positive student in both my class and in the 3rd class while I subbed. I feel fine. Both classes are in modified quarantine. Actually, all classes besides 3 are in modified quarantine.

Weekend Vagenda OT

Good morning, GT, and happy Saturday!  I don't know about y'all, but I am planning on taking it eee-eee-eee-eeeeasy as Adele this weekend. This is the last weekend of my break and my plan for today is to watch some movies and/or Queer Eye, make some lentil soup, read, do muh yoga, and nap. Ok, and maybe get my BuJo set up for the return to work 😱. We'll see about that... (BuJo-ing is self-care for me, if you're worried, lol.) And tomorrow, I hope, will be much the same! Only, maybe with some baked goods! How about you? Are you joining me in my indoor rest & relaxation revolution? Or are you a traitor to the cause, actually "going out" and "seeing people" or "doing things"? 😉 Whatever you're doing this weekend, I hope you take some time to take care of yourself, whatever that looks like. Happy weekend, everyone!

Fur Face Friday

Our post is up on backtalk, stop by and say hi! https://backtalkvillage.blogspot.com/2022/01/fur-face-friday.html

Fuck It Friday

Hey Ya'll, How's this week been for you? So our company's still going through a re-org which they announced a WEEK before Christmas. So lovely of them. Merry Christmas, ya'll might lose your jobs. BUT! We won't tell you for sure until the END of January. Just wanted to give you a little funsies panic during the time off. They did get hell for that decision on timing to announce so that's good. Soooo, we are all just hanging out, waiting to hear. I've been through several at my last place and the are always scary and sad. Two higher higher ups were hired yesterday, so that may be a tiny positive sign. However, no one really knows. In the meantime, I'll keep chugging along and not stress bc that'll do no good. I'm currently in a side certificate course from Google so that's keeping me busy which has been good for the mental health.  Ok, SO, I'm dedicating this week's FIF to fuckboys who initially come off nice. Enter ScubaBoy. AGAIN. ...

Thursday's Open Thread

Good morning! It's snowing again which makes me very happy. A lot, too. We're expecting somewhere between 4 & 6 inches which may as well be 8 feet here in Nashville, lol. If I wasn't 40+ & my back didn't hurt & ER's weren't full, I'd break out our sleds. 😂 In other news, today is the anniversary. You know the one that's always present in our minds & at the bottom of our blog. Sidebar--we need a gif party day or something where everyone leaves tons of comments so that stops--just an idea. President Biden's speech this morning was powerful. "Somehow, those results were accurate on the same ballot!" Focusing on the three Big Lies was a smart tactic. It was very good, especially after Garland's yesterday, & I'm very sure TFG hated it mucho.  Moving on, I bet you do the voices when you read this tweet. 😊 I'd like to think that when Betty White arrived in Heaven she asked, "So is this Heaven?" and Bea ...

Teaching during the end of the world is hard, Year 3

Yesterday I spoke to a teacher in the morning, they had a fever two hours later, and I covered their class while my class was at recess and then PE. This teacher is vaccinated and boosted, but they’re also in their 70’s.  When my class was back from PE I ended up standing between the doorways of both classes, dictating instructions from the door. For about an hour before the principal was able to take the other class. (I taught 24/26 of the other students last year and they’re baby angels, thank goodness.) There are just no subs. At all. I work for the Archdiocese, so we will be open until there are no more adult bodies to watch the kids.  My TA is in their 80’s. I feel like a tsunami is coming at us and everyone is pretending that we will be okay if we know how to swim. ETA: Happy 1 year anniversary to the time that I heard about a coup attempt because my Zoom student’s parents were watching the news with the volume turned up.

Wed. AM OT

Good morning, GT! Happy Wed.! I def. had a moment when I had to check my phone because it feels kind of Tuesday-ish? It's so weird how there's a Tue. feeling which is really different from, say, a Thursday feeling. But they really do feel different!  Anywhoozles! How are you? What are y'all up to today? My bestie is coming over to exchange Christmas gifts this morning. We'll have coffee and scones, too--yum. My niece might come over to do laundry and hang out but it's also crazy, yucky windy out, so we'll see.  I've done a really good job of being a bum this winter break but it's time to pull myself out of complete slothdom, so I'll either tackle Mt. Clothesmore or start on syllabi. I'm a little bitter because there's still no word from admin about whether classes will start online (as they fucking should!) or F2F, so it's hard to plan. Which, I guess, means I've talked myself into tackling Mt. Clothesmore.  How about you? Is it cold,...

TOT time!

Just sliding in over here to start a little Tuesday morning OT! Its our second chilly morning (35 is very cold for us!) and I'm loving it.  Working from home still since it looks like its taking longer than usual for covid tests to come back and I've got my big slippers on and my little heater under the desk. I'm also working  from home because I have a roofer coming out this afternoon.  I had a roofer all chosen - they did metal roofs, had been around for a long time, seemed great, etc and then a month or two ago when I went to sign the deal red flags started popping up**.  I short of shut down and cancelled the appointment to sign papers and then just did that thing where you freeze because you know it's wrong but you don't want to start from scratch lol and I just lived in limbo for a month not dealing with it.  Yesterday I was finally able to call another roofer I'd spoken to, as well as a third roofer, and I have one coming out for estimates today....

The Elephant In The Room - TW, Frank Cancer Talk

Well I'm at the halfway point for this round of chemo. It's been a job to get a rhythm with it but I feel like I'm finding my way. It's different than I imagined- not better or worse necessarily but there's a bad trip, fever-dream like element to it that I find particularly surprising (and difficult). Fortunately it doesn't last more than a few days and I then get a rest before it starts again. My cancer does continue to be an overachiever- there's a pinpoint spot in my brain. We had to cancel the original combo radiation/chemo plan in favor of just really strong chemo for now. Since it's learned how to travel we have to go scorched earth I guess. I would gladly give an intestine or limb or something but I really like my brain. I'm the bright, articulate girl so that one is a r...

Monday OT

Happy Monday, GT! What was supposed to be a relaxing day off has turned into a day of cooking since the freezer side of my refrigerator seems to have crapped out and everything defrosted. I don't know what's wrong with it but hopefully my dad can fix it. If he can't fix it it will probably be time for a new one. Of course this would happen right after I made a big fun purchase so my bank account is not going to be happy if I have to get a new one.  On a positive note, the tv stand and tv I bought are going to be delivered earlier than expected. The tv stand will be delivered today and the tv is coming tomorrow. I've been wanting to upgrade my tv for the last few years but never did it since it felt like an indulgence, but last year was rough and I wanted to treat myself. I'm excited! How are y'all doing today? What's going on in your world?

Lazy Sun. Lit. Talk: Year in Review and 2022 Edition

Hey, booklovers of GT! It's the first LSLT of the new year! As we begin 2022, it's nice to take a moment to think about what we read in 2021, as well as our plans, hopes, goals as readers for 2022. Let's do that here. So, what was the best thing you read in 2021? What was the worst? What did you discover in your literary life in 2021? If you set any, did you attain your reading goals?  If you have any, what are your reading goals for 202? Does anyone here do reading challenges? Do you have one in mind for 2022? Are there any books, or bookish events, you're looking forward to this year? I mentioned this last year, but BookRiot always has great challenges. Here's their 2022 Read Harder Challenge, if anyone's interested: https://bookriot.com/read-harder-2022/ And, as always, don't forget to tell us: 1) What book did you most recently finish? 2) What book are you currently reading? 3) What's next on your "to be read" list? 4) Are you looking fo...

Sunday's OT

Good morning groupthink! I hope you're having a pleasant day so far. I'm excited because it's going to snow all afternoon. That was quite a surprise since yesterday was 75° with severe thunderstorms. Apparently, it's going to snow enough for it to accumulate so we'll see what happens with our all the weather weekend, haha. It's a no news kind of Sunday, but I stole some jokes from friends.  Mine were still at it last night.  One more. What's happening with you today? Anyone else waiting on snow? Share away!

Weekend/2022 Vagenda

Good morning, GT, and welcome to 2022! I don't know about you, but this is probably one of the more bittersweet New Year's Days of my life. I'm pretty glad to see 2021 go but fear what's to come in 2022 (thanks, last several years!). But we have to keep going and try to make our own worlds as bright as we can. And there are reasons to hope!  Pfizer has an oral antiviral that's very effective (89%) in preventing hospitalization or death in folks who have COVID The US Military is working on getting approval for a vaccine that will prevent all variants of COVID, including future variants(!!)  Japanese researchers are working on a COVID vaccine that will last our whole lives AND be transportable at room temperature, meaning they could send it all over the world with much more ease  I just read yesterday about a food packaging invented in Singapore that is sustainable (made from corn protein), biodegradable, and can extend the shelf life of foods by killing harmful m...
